Wecycle is an initiative of the manufacturers and importers of electric and electronic appliances and compact fluorescent lamps. The purpose of the initiative is to collect more of these appliances and lamps. To this end, manufacturers, importers, retailers, municipalities and consumers combine their strengths and organise a variety of activities and campaigns. The executive organisation is the NVMP (Dutch Foundation for the Disposal of Metal and Electrical Products).
Why do we need Wecycle?
Too many electric and electronic appliances and compact fluorescent lamps are not recycled. They get thrown in the rubbish bin or end up in a developing country, where the collection and recycling takes little account of human and environmental interests. This results in damage to the environment. In the first place, because hazardous substances end up in our everyday surroundings. In addition, recycling yields valuable raw materials that can be used in new products.
What does Wecycle aim to achieve?
Wecycle is the driver of increased public awareness and joint action to collect and recycle more discarded electric and electronic appliances and lighting appliances. Wecycle aims to make everyone aware that recycling is a joint responsibility. It is good for the environment and good for the future of us all.
How does Wecycle intend to achieve this?
A variety of campaigns are organised under the banner of Wecycle that are intended to let as many people as possible join in. Examples include collection drives together with stores and schools, promotional campaigns, a large national campaign with radio and TV commercials and regional activities organised with municipalities that support Wecycle.
